Anaura Bay

Anaura Bay is a stunning bay and small community in the Gisborne District of New Zealand’s North Island. It’s located just south of Tokomaru Bay and north of Tolaga Bay.

British explorer James Cook landed at the southern end of the bay on 21 October 1769, where he met local Māori. A village and motor camp are now located at this site.

Located at the northern end of the bay is a scenic reserve, including a walkway and campsite. Anaura has been named one of the best beaches in New Zealand.

Our Experiences

Rangimarie Beachstay at the northern end is where we spent two nights for our honeymoon after our 2009 NZ wedding at Gisborne’s Wainui Beach.

It’s also where we spent New Year 2020/21 with Rod and Tracy at their family beach home when these pictures were taken.
